Thats life

My Yoga teacher came back from Canada after few months with some lovely gifts and a sad news. She is discovered for Thyroid Cancer.

She is closer to 70 years old., But looks very healthy and pretty., I never believed her age till she told me one day. She is one of the most strongest women whom I have met in my life., So Im sure she will live with it. She is very strong mentally as well as physically.

She is going to be more and more devoted to yoga. On Saturday, when I met her., Her voice has changed. But both of us discussed a lot about Yoga and how good some poses are for Thyroid problems., We talked about cancer and how yoga helps Cancer patients to live much more longer than the Doctors expect them to live. I talked to her lot about what I learnt from a web site., it was a story about a devoted yogi who is a cancer survivor, and I promised her to send that article to her.

Sometime back I posted that article here in my blog., but never thought that my teacher will face the same situation.. Sometimes I really wonder what life is all about… No matter what ever we do.. We have come to this world for a transit..

She is the best teacher I have ever met in my life., She didn’t only teach me yoga., She made me a yoga teacher., she tought me to do things right., and to teach the same for students without keeping anything for myself, She always told me., no matter how good you are in your headstand, if your student cannot do it… I know what she meant… I wish and pray for her health everyday

To do a right Thrikonasana

This is one of the most difficult poses for me to correct students. The last time we practiced, I noticed quite lot of misalignments of my students. But It was very hard for me to explain them how to correct their mistakes and make them realizing that they do something wrong.

I asked them to stand with their feet 3-4 feet apart. It was not so right with some students and I had to ask them to adjust. Then I asked them to bend forward while they exhale and placed their palms on the floor. But as most of them couldn’t place the hand on the floor aligned with their shoulders (1 hand at a time) It didn’t look right. We couldn’t proceed with the sequence and I asked everybody to practice at home., I think its better for me to get them in more forward bends before starting the Thrikonasana.

Some times its frustrating knowing to do something and not knowing how to correct a student who does it wrong., I must watch some good DVDs for Thrikonasana., Some times they tech lot of valuable tips.

The Naked Buddha Speaks

This is one of the books, which I bought from BMICH Book Exhibition. I was quite curious about this book .. Because it’s written by a foreign monk. (I cant say the name of this book didn’t make me curious about it too)

I spent lot of time reading it and few more pages to go through., It’s a quite a nice book and very easy to understand. The author has tried to clear lots of misbelieves and myths among westerners about Buddhism. I like the way he compares Buddhism with Philosophy. But still I do not agree with few points he has made about Buddhism., Still it’s a great book (ISBN 1863253157)

Does it really matters?

Lot of people makes such a big issue about their yoga mats. I do not say a mat is not important., and even ancient yogis have used yoga mats (Bhagawad Geetha says that Ancient yogis laid “Kusa” grass, Covered with a Deer Skin and practiced yoga)

There are so many popular brands in the market.,

I use a sticky mat and I like it., it helps me changing from pose to pose steadily. But a mat is not used to help your balance. That should come within you.

Most of my students use rugs instead of mats., because its easy to carry with them.

yoga.com Forum

Ok I have decided not to go to yoga.com forum again. Its so stupid how some people call them yoga teachers., they come to the forum for some other intentions. Not for yoga., Thanks to Google they know to search copy and paste instruction in the forum and call themselves Yoga teachers.. People who have no idea of whats going on in the forum can be easily bought by them., Today I talked to Kira (A former member of the forum and my dearest friend.) as I have not seen her for long time in the forum., She told me that she is very disappointed with what’s going on there and 1 month ago, she also has decided to be away from the forum.

I miss all the good advises I got from Glenda, Bay Guy , Yoga guy, jeens, orbellia, Zoebird, kulkaarn (Who always encouraged me for yoga) and some others. But I can think of them as real teachers in my life..
I missed Cyndi too :) Who was the trouble maker all the time. She talks 2 valid points while talking 1000 nonsense. But there was a very good quality in her . She is like the river., Refreshes all the time., She doesn’t keeps things in mind (Im totally different) she fight with a person today., But tomorrow she comes to the forum with all new thoughts about that person., Its amazing.. I dont know how to do that., Any way Im thankful to the forum, I met world best yogis there. and learnt quite a lot to improve my path in Yoga. Things Ive learnt from there will never be forgotten, !!!

Searching for Yoga Books

I couldn’t write the blog for so long as I was very busy with my office work., I had to give up one class too. So Im telf with only one class to teach yoga,.

I started the classes last Wednesday and I felts so good after the class. Teaching yoga for bunch of kids makes me happy., there was a newbie to the class (a girl who is 12 years old) when I demonstrated the Shoulder stand for them she drew the sign of the cross twise J I couldn’t stop laughing.. I asked why .. She said its scary.. I had to try hard to convince her that shoulder stand is more fun and not scary. J But none of them could do it in the class and they wanted to do it on next day.. I agreed.. I think I must get them to practice with all support first.

I went to the Book exhibition at BMICH with some colleagues yesterday., I was loafing everywhere in the new section to find BKS Iyenger’s books , but couldn’t find any, there were too many Indian book stalls, they asked me to find the publisher of his books and search for that stall, but I had no way of checking it.

I bought a book about Buddhist philosophy and another book called “Kundalani Yoga” I’m not that interested in Kundalani Yoga, but just wanted to explore a little about it.

Some books were extremely expensive., but in some places they gave discounts upto 50%. In Vijithayapa stall there was quite a nice sections with history and religious books., books about “Ancient Greece, India, Buddhism, Hindunism, etc. But they were very very expensive and some books are priced for Rs.7000/-

Im sure my other colleagues got really board with me by going through this type of book collections., but In this sections, they didn’t have any good IT books either,
